NorthStar uses innovative OPzV technology to deliver long life performance and superior deep cycle capabilities. 

OPzV stands for Ortsfest (stationary) PanZerplatte (tubular plate) Verschlossen (closed). NorthStar OPzV batteries use tubular gel, where silica dust is added to the electrolyte to form a thick putty-like gel. These are sometimes referred to as "silicone batteries".

OPzV batteries are safer for the environment, and safer to use - they have no water levels to check or terminals to clean, without risks of dangerous acid spills, and can be installed in any position. NorthStar OPzV Batteries can be recharged much faster than flooded lead-acid batteries.

In Myanmar, nearly 70% of the population live without access to electricity. NorthStar have together with a key customer established a sustainable energy solution for the country’s rural regions using OPzV Solar batteries to provide a telecom site powered by solar energy.

The positive plates are constructed with long tubular sleeves called gauntlets, which hold the active "gel" material, hence the name tubular gel.
